This week, I started to look for renting a villa in Costa Rica just to see what my life will look like in December 2016 when I will enter this country for a 3-4 months trip. I must say I was quite excited to see what I can afford!
This week, I’ve covered the situation in China with my post about Leverage being just an illusion.
Then, I shared how I use the 80/20 rule in all aspects of my life.

Interesting Reads:
Dividend Growth Investor made several purchases in June. My favorite is probably 3M (MMM) and Exxon Mobil (XOM). The first one is a very strong company that is currently undervalued and the second one is definitely trading at a great discount!
Dividend Mantra explains why Florida is one of the best states for early retirement. I might have to consider moving permanently to the States once my RV trip is over! I must admit, he got me at “no state tax”!
Dividend Diplomats made their watch list for August. I’m not convinced by IBM and CIBC but I like Dow Chemical. This is what I like about reading other dividend blogs; more ideas that comes in conflicts with mine. This is how you can evolve as an investor and as a person in general.
Dividend Hustler shares his dividend investing milestones. I was impressed to see how many stocks he holds in his portfolio. He has built a monstrous dividend making machine in no time. Congrats Tyler!
Captain Dividend Bought Kinder Morgan (KMI). He definitely picked a strong dividend stock at a great moment (it’s down 18% ytd).
Roadmap 2 Retires talks about Gold. He reviews different ways to invest in the precious commodity. I personally don’t like gold at all. After all, this is just a piece of metal you buy and put on your desk; that as nothing to do with a business generating juice cash flows.
DivHut is also making his watch list. I really like CAT at this price along with RY and TD.
And a Special Mention To…
Frank at Dividend Engineering who makes a pause from blogging. Frank wrote several high quality dividend articles. Unfortunately, the fun to write is not there anymore. I hope he will come back!
Another special mention to Eric from Retire 29. This is another guy who shares the will to ignore the “normal path” and retire early. He wrote a very interesting article about life called: Life is what happens while you are busy making other plans. My favorite quote of this inspirational post is:
Make your plans. Automate them. Then, Live Your Life.
I think it says it all!
I’ll receive all my friends and family tomorrow for the birthday of my two oldest kids (their birthday is one week apart). This will be the last time we receive everybody in this house as we will be chilling on the California coast at the same time of the year next year. I will embrace tomorrow’s moment!
Enjoy your weekend!

Thanks for the mention, DivGuy. I have mixed feelings about gold myself – I have never bought bullion and preferred investing via gold mining stocks.
Have a great weekend

As always I appreciate the mention of DivHut. Have a great weekend. Here’s to new August buys!
Dividend Mantra
Mike,
Costa Rica sounds nice. Not the cheapest destination in Central America, but definitely one of the nicest. Amazing what you can get for a dollar in some foreign countries.
Thanks for the mention. Have a great weekend!
Best regards.
DivGuy
Hey Jason,
Costa Rica is definitely less cheap than other countries around but it is safe enough I can live there with my family without any worries. Safety has also a price 🙂
Cheers,
Mike.
Dividend Diplomats
DivGuy,
Man — talk about a fun little experiment – I like the idea of renting a place for a period of time before deciding to officially uproot and go. Aka – life is in your hands and you’re making and choosing what you want to do. BOOM!
Also – thanks for the mention – bought some DOW and yes – bought your FAVORITE Canadian Bank… CM haha, put the gloves on, LETS GO haha jk.

Hey Lanny!
you are funny 😀
It will be fun to travel with the RV, but we also want a taste of a local community. I also want to make sure we all speak Spanish upon our return :-). Speaking 3 different languages is another great tool in my kids toolbox for the future!
Dividend Growth Investor
Hey Mike,
Thanks for the mention bud. Looks like your dream is getting closer and closer to becoming a reality. That’s very exciting.
Dividend Diplomats
Mike,
Thanks for adding us in the article. That is one of the best parts of the community here, we don’t have to agree with each stock purchase or analysis, but we all contribute by bringing them up for discussion. That’s how I discovered KMI in the first place. I wasn’t familiar and Lanny came up to me saying there is this dividend stock that we have to look at. At just like that, a new investment was born!
Good for you for planning an extended stay in Costa Rica. That is awesome and I am sure it will be a life-changing experience. I bet December 2016 cannot come soon enough. Do you have a town in mind that you will be traveling to or are you still open about where you will be staying during your trip?
Keep up the great work here and have a nice weekend!
